John H. Hudson to Release "Choosing the Right Path" Summer 2009

Just after the end of World War II, there was a marked increase in the birthrate (a baby boom) in America. Consequently, individuals born between 1946 and 1964 are commonly referred to as baby boomers or boomers. Data from the 2000 U.S. census indicates that there are at least 82,826,479 boomers, who range in age from forty-eight- to sixty-three-years-old. This demographic behemoth will start leaving the workforce over the next three years. What will this exit mean to organizations? I attempt to answer this question in my new book entitled “Choosing the Right Path” by looking at major age shifts that will alter the demographic landscape of the U.S. labor force. In this book, I also provide some insight for those individuals who are a part of this generation that will prove helpful in charting this next chapter in their lives.

Magnetic North Defined

What is coaching? Very simply, it is helping an individual to get from where they are to where they desire to be. In my practice I help clients to clearly define the desired outcome of the coaching engagement, something I call “Magnetic North”. Once we have identified Magnetic North we develop strategies to remain focused on the destination much as ancient mariners used the North Star to navigate on the open seas.

On the open seas, much as in life, storms arise that can blow you off of your intended course, but as long as you know where magnetic or “True” north is, you can quickly course correct and continue your journey. My commitment to clients is to ensure a focused journey to a desired destination.
